Accreditation Status: AIU is in the process of applying for approval to operate with the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) and initial accreditation with the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC). Current operations are conducted as a division of International Technological University (ITU), a WSCUC-accredited institution.

BPPE Consumer Disclosure

Any person may file a complaint about this institution with the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education by calling (888) 370-7589 toll-free or by completing a complaint form at www.bppe.ca.gov.

Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF)

The State of California established the Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF) to relieve or mitigate economic loss suffered by a student enrolled in a qualifying institution. The current STRF assessment rate is $0 per $1,000 of institutional charges. Students must pay the STRF assessment unless exempt. Contact aiu-support@itu.edu for questions.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Students may cancel their enrollment agreement without penalty through attendance at the first class session, or within seven (7) days of enrollment, whichever is later. A $250 administrative fee applies to cancellations after the first class session.

Refunds for withdrawal after instruction begins are calculated on a pro-rata basis:

  • 0–10% of period completed: 90% refund
  • 11–25% completed: 75% refund
  • 26–50% completed: 50% refund
  • 51–75% completed: 25% refund
  • Over 75% completed: no refund

Refunds are processed within 45 days of written withdrawal notice.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

Graduate students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and successfully complete at least 67% of attempted credit hours per term. SAP is evaluated at the end of each 6-week term. Students falling below standards receive academic warning, then probation, then possible termination. Appeals may be submitted within 14 days of notice.

Grievance and Complaint Procedure

Step 1 (Internal): Contact your Jarvis advisor or submit a written complaint to aiu-support@itu.edu. AIU responds within 10 business days.

Step 2 (External — BPPE): Complaints unresolved internally may be filed with the BPPE at (888) 370-7589 or www.bppe.ca.gov.

Step 3 (Accreditor): Complaints may also be submitted to DEAC at www.deac.org.

Note: AIU does not require students to exhaust internal dispute resolution before seeking external remedies from the BPPE, DEAC, or any other body.

Distance Education Disclosure

All AIU programs are delivered 100% via distance education — asynchronous online delivery. Students require broadband internet (5 Mbps+) and a modern web browser. No specialized hardware is required. Distance education courses are designed to meet the same rigor and learning outcomes as in-person instruction.

Identity Verification

AIU verifies student identity through secure login credentials and, for proctored assessments, may require additional identity confirmation. Student privacy is protected per our Privacy Policy. The cost of identity verification is included in tuition with no additional charge.

Attendance / Academic Engagement

Per federal regulations (2024), AIU tracks academic engagement for all distance education courses. Engagement is defined as any substantive interaction with course content, including Jarvis advisor sessions, assignment submissions, quizzes, and module completions. Students are expected to engage at least once every 14 days per enrolled course.

Disability Accommodations

AIU is committed to equal access. Students with disabilities should contact aiu-support@itu.edu to request accommodations. Requests are typically addressed within 5 business days.

Privacy

Student records are maintained in accordance with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). Students have the right to inspect their educational records and request corrections. Records are not disclosed to third parties without written consent except as permitted by law.
