Bone Marrow Donor Registry Drive

Want to be part of the drive to end blood cancer?

ITU and the ITU Student Government is sponsoring the Asian American Donor Program (AADP), will host a university-wide bone marrow donor registry drive to encourage more minorities to register as bone marrow donors.

Thousands of patients with blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell and other life-threatening diseases need a bone marrow transplant to survive. The closer the biological match, the more likely it is that the patient will react well, so the ethnicity of the donor plays a crucial role in patient recovery. There is currently a shortage of minority donors for bone marrow transplants, so we are encouraging our students to sign up to give a sample of their tissue at the AADP table on campus. Cheek cell samples will be sent to the Be The Match registry, who can match a donor to a patient. Donors will be listed on the registry until they turn 60 years old.

Basic Eligibility Requirements:
You can donate if you are between the ages of 18 & 44, and are in good general health, with no serious, ongoing lower back problems.

For more detailed information on procedure and requirements, please visit AADP Website.
