ITU Holds 2017 Commencement Ceremony

Another year, another milestone. Last May 13, the International Technological University (ITU) successfully held the ITU 2017 Commencement Ceremony.

Held at the Flint Center for Performing Arts, the event was led by ITU President Dr. Greg O’ Brien who was simply proud to send graduates out into the world as the next generation of scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians. As said in his speech, “You are now ready to assume leadership in your profession.”

The event was made more memorable by guests and speakers who imparted great insights and knowledge.

CableLabs President and CEO Phil McKinney served as commencement speaker. Mr. McKinney heads the research and development organization responsible for charting the cable industry’s technology and innovation roadmap. His professional background involves various and very notable work for HP, including as founder and leader of HP’s Innovation Program Office (IPO). He is also the newly published author of the book Beyond The Obvious.

In his speech, Mr. McKinney stressed that what foils success is FEAR–False Evidence that Appears Real. He advocates against feeding on one’s fear of failure. He emphasized that failure is an opportunity to learn, that the opposite of bravery is not cowardice but conformity, the not daring to be different. “The definition of success in the creative economy is your ability to create ideas.”

Mr. McKinney ended his encouraging speech with great advice: “You are prepared to be the innovation leaders we need. So, GO LEAD!”
