Career Tips and Speed Networking Sessions – Ingredients for a Successful Event

Last June 29, Thursday, International Technological University (ITU), through its Student Government Association (SGA) and Career & Alumni Services, held its first Career Advancement Conference at the ITU Campus.

It was an evening of professional networking, career advancement workshops, educational lectures, and specialized panels. The workshop/event was well-attended with ITU students and alumni coming together to expand their network, strengthen connections, and advance their careers.

Serving as keynote speaker was Carnegie Mellon University’s Prof. Mark Joseph Tan, Senior Product Manager for Amazon. The professor’s talk focused on how to make a name for one’s self in the tech industry, particularly in the Silicon Valley.

The other topics for the day were Pursuing a Career in Product Management, The Future of Careers in Artificial Intelligence, and Speed Networking Sessions.

More experts were invited to speak, namely Google Fiber Innovative Experience Specialist Emmanuel Matthews and MIT Sloan School of Engineering alumna Ruthu Sreebashyam for the product management panel; Scalable Systems Research Labs President & CEO Axel Kloth and Ms. Patricia Hoffman, Consultant of Machine Learning, for the artificial intelligence panel; and established regional tech recruiter Mr. Matt Sottile, who joined Prof. Tan and Mr. Matthews, for a recruiter question and answer panel, which examined how hiring managers look at candidates in today’s job market.

Aside from the relevant discussions, ITU students and guests also took part in speed networking activities as they mingled over catered food and refreshments.
