ITU in the Community

Expanding our connection with Silicon Valley.

At ITU, we value our Global Connections, but also remain active in our own backyard here in Silicon Valley. Our involvement ranges from collecting donations for charities to sharing the knowledge of our instructors. Being involved with local efforts, allows for ITU to give back, and connect ITU’s community with the rest of Silicon Valley. Students, staff, faculty and alumni are always encouraged to participate in our collaborative events.

ITU Alzheimer’s Walk

Each year, ITU chooses to take part in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s because our university understands the debilitating effects of this disease. Our beloved founder, Dr. Shu-Park Chan, suffered from Alzheimer’s and his tragic loss has motived everyone in the ITU community to do its part to fight the disease. Dr. Chan dedicated his life to higher education and giving back to the community. The Alzheimer’s Walk is especially close to us as it falls on Dr. Chan’s birthday. We take this opportunity to encourage all our faculty, students, and staff to participate in the walk as a way to celebrate Dr. Chan’s life achievements, and help find a way to end this disease.

ITU Blood Drive

Every two seconds someone needs a blood transfusion. Blood is needed for surgeries, emergencies, medical procedures, and cancer treatments.

ITU is doing its part to help by hosting a blood drive among its staff and faculty. Each Summer tries, the blood drive comes as a partnership between the University and the Silicon Valley Chapter of Silicon Valley. Last trimester over 22 members of the ITU Community took part in the the event. For more information on the Blood Drive and to take part in our next event please email communityservice@itu.edu.

Each year, ITU will host a campus-wide food drive and participate in a food-sorting event at the Second Harvest Food Bank’s Cypress Center. The events aim to give students, faculty, and staff a platform to give back to the community, support those in need, and raise awareness of local social issues.
